The Internet = Political Security
The Internet was initially created by researchers appointed by the United States government in order to advance technologically and to strengthen the defense of the country during the Cold War. In 1957, the Soviet Union launched the first satellite, Sputnik I, into space. As a result, President Dwight Eisenhower created the ARPA or the Advanced Research Project Agency to regain the technological lead in the arms race. ARPA appointed J.C.R. Licklider of MIT to head the new organization with a mandate to further research and help protect the US against a space-based nuclear attack.
